Home Decor - Walk in Closet

I wanted to do one more home decor post now that I am settled in to my new apartment, and the obvious choice was to show you guys my walk-in closet! A walk-in closet has always been one of my "apartment dreams" and so when I bought this apartment and saw the "flex space" room, I knew exactly what I needed to do with it. Check out the  photos below to see how I designed my closet! I've also linked the different products I used to build my closet (where possible) as well as many of the shoes etc. you see pictured in the photos (just in case you like them too!)

I do have to keep a filing cabinet inside my walk-in closet (it's the only place I have to keep it) so I decided that if I had to keep it in there, I might as well as make it look pretty by displaying some fun items on it! I love the Evelyn Henson Print & the Coco Chanel Book, and then I decided to display this adorable pair of undies I got while travelling through Amsterdam a few years ago.

As this was simply an empty space and not a preexisting walk in closet, I had to create the closet part myself. I went with the ClosetMaid system (available in store at Home Depot) but there are lots of great build your own sets out there. I also really like this system. This is also really cool if you are looking for something more temporary/adjustable.

My favourite part of my closet is this over the door mirror / jewelry storage unit. In small spaces (like my apartment) multi tasking is key - and being able to hide away all my jewelry while getting a full length mirror is PERFECT. I think every girl should have this is their closet/bedroom!

I hope you all enjoyed this peak inside my closet! For your convenience i have included links to all the products mentioned (as well as others I think would be perfect for a bedroom/closet) in the widget below!

Home Decor - Bedroom & Living Room

living-room-decor-idea-grey-white
I've been spending a lot of time on style for the home since buying my condo last month, and I've realized how much I enjoy it - it really is an extension of personal style. So, as a personal (professional) style blog, I thought you may be interested in seeing some of my "home style" as well! Today I thought I am showing you pictures of my bedroom & living room. Stay tuned next week as I'll be showing home decor "accents" and ...drum roll please... my walk in closet. And yes, my walk-in closet is easily my favorite room in my home haha.

Hope you enjoy my bedroom & living room decor as well as my "decor wants"! And- just a reminder- your chance to win a pair of Polette glasses ends tonight at midnight! Hurry up and enter if you haven't entered yet!

BEDROOM:

For my bedroom I wanted white & grey as my color scheme. I also wanted to decorate with bright lights as there is no overhead lighting in the room. I went with Marquee letters which serve both as my art work and as a light source. "Upenda", in case you are wondering, is the Swahili word for "Love" (..well, it is one of them). I lived in Tanzania for a while and learned basic Swahili. I loved my time there and wanted to incorporate those memories into my room. As a die-hard romantic (barf, I know) I had to go with the word love.

LIVING ROOM:

For my living room, I wanted to keep the white & grey theme- and add lots of acrylic to keep the small space looking as large as it can be. My coffee table is definitely my favourite piece- I ordered it online and so was worried about what it would really look like, but I am pleased to say it is EXACTLY what I wanted!

My friends and family are extremely important to me, so above my desk I decided to create a gallery wall with photos of all the most important people in life. It makes me happy every time I see it!

High Five for Friday #6

Welcome to another High Five for Friday, a post where I recap 5 great things from my week so far. Here goes:

1. Moved!

I have (finally!) moved in to my new condo! The actual move was stressful and, as is always the case, a bit of a disaster, but at least I am moved in! I am definitely still in the process of working on the condo/getting settled but I am excited to at least be in my new space (even if that does mean eating on the floor for the moment because I don’t yet have a table or chairs haha).

Spending time with my best friend

My best friend since the 8th grade came in from Ontario on Monday night and we spent Monday & Tuesday hanging out in Vancouver. It was SO great to be able to show her my new apartment, my city, and my friends in Vancouver. One of the only things I miss about living in Ontario is getting to see her all the time. She was a HUGE help and helped me get more settled in to my apartment on Tuesday during the day. We also spent some time at Kits beach, went for dinner, and went for Trivia at a local pub.

Spending time with my favourite tiny humans

After spending two days in Vancouver with Maddie, on Wednesday we headed over to Vancouver Island where her two kids were spending time visiting their grandparents. I spent Wednesday and Thursday hanging out with them there. We played in the park, swam in the lake, collected sea glass by the ocean, and basically just lived outside!

4. Dinner at Chambar

My parents were in town Friday through Sunday to help with the move. On Sunday night we went to Chambar for dinner, which is one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver. I had the mussels & fries, my go-to dish, and it was amazing as always. The mussels are gigantic and the white wine broth is so. darn. good. For dessert my mom and I also split this chocolate thing with a beetroot ice cream. I would never have thought I would like beets in my ice cream but my goodness it was amazing. Just the tiniest bit of tartness from the beets and the texture was so creamy. I am getting hungry just thinking about it.

Forest walk

I know I already mentioned spending time with my goddaughters as one of my 5 things, but a particular walk through the forest with 6 year old Adelaide totally deserves it’s own mention. On Thursday morning Maddie and I took the girls on a walk to the starbucks (we were dying for coffee) and we took a scenic 20 minute walk along the beach/through a forest to get there. Adelaide, having longer legs than her two year old sister, walked with me pretty far ahead. I’ve always said that getting a kid on a walk with you is the best way to find out what’s going on with them as they just don’t stop talking. This was so true of this walk. I almost never get to spend one-on-one time with Adelaide, and doing so allowed me to learn so many things about her little life right now (her favourite animal, favourite drink, what she thinks about dance class, and her ‘difficult’ teeth); It was so fantastic to bond just with her.

I Hope you all have had a great week so far as well! I am off now to a friend's cabin for the weekend and I am so freaking excited for it! See you back here on Monday!
