Wednesday Wants - Print Mixing

style tips on print mixing items

polka dots and stripes print mixing

My favorite part of fall fashion is the print mixing. Stripes, plaid, polka dots, & leopard are probably the 4 biggest prints of fall - and they work great when mixed together!

The key to print mixing is balancing the sizes - ie. if one print is very small, the other should be large. So, tiny polka dots work well with thick stripes, while big polka dots work better with thin stripes.

Liven up your work wear this fall, by doing some print mixing! If you are print-mixing-shy (yes, we're labelling that a term haha) stick with one printed item worn with a basic, and add your second print in via your shoes! The 8 pairs below (2 of each of the top 4 prints for fall) are a great way to ease your way in to print mixing your outfits.

In other news, if you follow my instagram, you may have seen my story about doing a Facebook live Q&A! I have been getting a lot of reader questions via instagram DMs (and a few good old fashioned emails) so I am going to round some up for a Q&A!

If you have any questions you'd like to ask me (fashion, beauty, about me) send me an instagram message or leave it as a comment below! I'll try to do the Q&A video this weekend!

Wednesday Wants: New Fall Releases - Shoes

I have been wanting to update my shoe closet for a while now, and seeing all the great pairs available right now is certainly making me want to splurge! Suede shoes for work are a favorite of mine - so I am happy to see so many suede styles this season. I also love how many great flats there are - as some days you just need to give your feet a break from heels!

I'm currently trying to do 4/5 work days in heels, but give myself one day in flats. Cute flats (like these ones here!) definitely make it easier to give up heels for the day for the sake of my poor feet!

I hope you all have an awesome day at work! I've got to go to courthouses in a couple different cities today so it should be a busy one for me. (...and yes, given all the running around I'm doing today, today is most-definitely my flats day haha)

The 8 Shoes Every Working Woman Should Own

essential shoes for young professional women

I get a lot of reader questions about wardrobe essentials. Today I am sharing with you the 9 shoes that every working women should own. If you are a young professional, consider this your shoe-shopping checklist! I've linked up 3 of my current favorites of each type of shoe below; with one each at a low, mid-range and "splurge" price point.

1. Black Patent Pumps
A true classic. A patent pump in a heel height that is comfortable for you, is never going to let you down.

2. Nude Pumps
Not only do they elongate your legs giving you a flattering line, but nude pumps go with nearly every outfit. As if you needed another reason to swoon over Louboutin pumps: great news! Louboutin has recently announced that they are launching their classic nude pump in SEVEN shades this fall. That means that everyone will (hopefully) be able to find a perfect shade. Diversity for the win!

3. Statement Pumps
A pair of statement pumps - basically any pump of a bold color or pattern, or any pump with an interesting design (think cutouts, bows, etc.) - are a wardrobe must have. These are the perfect way to add some personality and personal expression to a classic work outfit. Because there are so many great options for statement pumps, below I have linked up 3 of my favorites at each price point.

4. Black Wedges
Nothing beats the sophistication of a high heel, but wedges are a must to give your feet a break. A black wedge still looks polished & professional - but is easier on your feet! At least once a week give your feet a break and go for a wedge!

5. Basic Flats
Some days your feet just need a break. Other days, you're outfit just looks better with flats. Every working woman needs a pair of classic flats in her wardrobe. These are also perfect for commuting to and from work - you can always change into heels once you are at the office.

6. Statement Flats
Flats don't have to be boring! There is a misconception that flats are only for your 'comfort' days. Now more than ever, designers are releasing flats that are chic and professional. Add at least one pair of statement flats to your shoe wardrobe. I've linked up two of my personal favorites at each price point in the widget below.

7. Black Ankle Boots
Ankle boots are a perfect way to add a bit more edge or drama to a classic work look. They are also great to help transition your wear-to-work wardrobe from summer to fall.

8. Kitten Heels
A kitten heel is, by most definitions, any pump with a heel of 1-2 inches. This shorter heel is ideal for dresses or skirts that hit at the knee or higher. Below I've listed a classic black and a statement kitten heel at each price point.

90's Girl Boss

Ever since 90s fashion came back as a trend earlier this year, I've dabbled with the idea of incorporating styles - like the choker necklace - into a work day look. So, with this outfit, I finally pulled the trigger on that idea - and I love the result! I felt like a complete boss circa 1994 in this outfit - think Sarah Michelle Gellar at a press conference haha.

The choker necklace is obviously the central piece of this look (it's so fun!) but I also wanted to keep the 90s vibe alive by sticking with flowy materials and fabrics - a 90s staple. Pairing this loose shirt with these work day track pants definitely gave me the look I wanted.

I added in my favorite Chloe dupe sunglasses and some killer statement heels just to feel extra tough. Something about killer shoes & sunnies just makes me feel more confident!

What do you guys think of this look?! Did I succeed in making the 90s trend work appropriate? Would you wear 90s style to work? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Have a great work day everyone.

Wednesday Wants: Shoes

I have been having major shoe cravings lately. All I want to buy is shoes, and I have no real idea why haha. I've justified my shoe craving by saying that flats - especially ones for summer - are a great investment. I am a definite heels girl (no surprise there!) but in the summer I find myself walking so much more while at work and thus turn more frequently to flats.

All of the above options would be great to wear to work - except the gold glitter ones which, come on, had to be on this list since they are so darn cute. Those i would wear on the weekends, for sure.

Do you wear flats more frequently in the summer? What items are you finding yourself craving this summer? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Have a great day everyone.

Wednesday Wants: Spring Office Wear

I've been slowly bringing out my spring work wardrobe this past week. For me, that means lots of blush, gray, and pale blues and yellows. This week's Wants are all items I would love to add to my spring wardrobe. I definitely think I need to pull the trigger on all 3 pairs of shoes. The chunky heel pumps are right on trend (and I love the suede). The other two are both new patterns/colors of my favorite shoes - Ivanka Trumps

Today is my last day of being 29. I am freaking out (slightly) less than i thought I would be, so I am calling that a win. Today is also my last day of work before a 4 day weekend so, that is exciting! I've decided not to do any sort of big celebration for my birthday - instead I've asked friends and family to spend whatever money they would normally spend on me (be that $7 buying a drink at a bar, or $25 on a gift, etc.) and instead spend that on something good. I.E. Donate it to a local charity, buy the person behind you in line a cup of coffee etc. I then asked my friends to tell me about what they did as that will bring me SO much more joy than any present could.

See you all back here on Friday for a spring work outfit AND another giveaway! You don't want to miss it!

Wednesday Wants

Neutrals - blush tones, camels, and greys - are going to be very popular this winter. I've been eyeing a number of great neutral pieces in stores lately and thought I'd get a head start on rounding up some great pieces for the late fall and early winter. I must say my favourite items are the gorgeous wrap coat and bow coat!

Today promises to be a busy day with a course on ethics in the legal profession in the evening followed by one of my favourite dance classes. I hope you all have a great day ahead as well! See you back here on Friday!!

Wednesday Wants

Happy Wednesday readers! I have been loving the trends in fall accessories this season. There is a huge emphasis on texture this year; especially in footwear. All of the selections above feature interesting/rich materials. I especially *love* the grey textured oxfords! And of course, with every fall season comes an emphasis on rich colors. I am particularly fond of all the rich wine and navy hues this fall.

Tonight I am meeting up with a bunch of local (Vancouver) fashion bloggers and am excited to bounce around ideas and get to know them! Should be a fun evening. I will see you back here on Friday for a post featuring fall fashion AND food (mmmm thanksgiving goodness....)
