Work Wear Outfit Ideas for Fall

fall office appropriate outfit ideas

When I'm looking for inspiration for what to wear at the beginning of a season, one of the first things I do is go through my old blog posts to remind myself of outfits I wore last year. This helps to remind me of style ideas I liked, and gets the creative juices flowing!

Today, therefore, I thought I would share 5 office appropriate outfits that I wore last fall, and will definitely be re-creating again this year. I hope these help inspire your own work day fall style. Below each photo I've included a link to the original blog post where you can see all of the outfit details (all item links have been updated.)

PS. did you catch my Facebook live style Q&A over the weekend?! I've saved the video to my facebook page, so head on over to check it out if you missed it!

Three Timeless Fall Trends

three fall trends that never go out of style

It is officially fall weather here in Vancouver. So, in getting ready for the fall, I wanted to share with you three trends that are timeless; trends you can count on to look great fall after fall, after fall.

Three Timeless Fall Trends

1) Plaid

As soon as the weather turns colder, you can bet that plaid will be back in fashion. The nice thing about plaid is that you can make quite the statement with it - as I did with the above shirt. Or; you can use it as more of an accent to your outfit - as I did in the outfit below.

 2) Stripes

The beauty of stripes as a pattern is that they can look nautical & summery, or ready for fall totally depending on how you style them. My striped tees are probably the most worn items in my wardrobe for this very reason!

To ensure your stripes are "fall ready"; pair them with other fall colors like burgundy or camel - or course mix them with plaid!

3) Leopard Print

The quote that leopard is a neutral is so true - especially for the fall. In the fall, leopard print can replace your basic black or tan to give your outfits more depth. Again, pairing leopard print with fall tones such as burgundy is an easy way to create a timeless fall look.

I have been wearing this skirt a lot lately (see this post). Pairing it with a turtleneck and statement necklace made for a fun work look that was comfortable all day long. This turtleneck is actually a body suit. They are the best thing to wear with pencil skirts - smooth lines and no uncomfortable bunching! I highly recommend body suits.

Today is Day 7 of 12 Days of Giveaways and today we are giving away such a great prize - the below hat & scarf set from Deloom, AND a $50 gift card to Deloom!

I only recently discovered Deloom and I love their store! They have the "Holiday items" category ON. LOCK. Perfect sequin items for your holiday outfits and tons of cozy items that make perfect Christmas gifts! You can see my favourites below. But first, today's featured blogger is Carrie from Curly Crafty Mom. I love all the creative projects she comes up with!

Cozy Fall

Lately when I get home from work all I want to do is curl up under ten blankets wearing sweatpants. The "socially acceptable alternative" that I have come to as a compromise, is a cotton dress or tunic with leggings and a blanket scarf.

I am in love with this dress. The slight fit-and-flare shape, the 3/4 sleeves and the (fake) button front all add great detail to the world's easiest 'throw on and go' outfit. Be warned though that if you are tall (like me) this dress is definitely a tunic and not actually a dress.

I hope you all have a great Friday and fun weekend ahead. I need to take some time this weekend to de-stress so I think I'll be spending a lot of time in dance classes and walking on the sea wall (if the weather cooperates!) See you back here on Monday!

Feeling British

I have a serious love for elbow patches. This amazing blazer combined with the plaid pencil skirt made me feel oh-so-British, and I could not have been happier! Maybe it's all the Downton Abbey I've been watching lately? All I know is I am craving everything that reminds me of the British countryside. In the cooler weather I often wear my work pencil skirts with a sweater & a blazer for added warmth. You still look polished and professional, but are quite cozy!

I hope you all have had a good work week! It was a weird one for me - with courts closed on Wednesday for Remembrance Day and a lot of client meetings as opposed to actual court work. I did get to spend a LOT of time this week on the blog and other blog-related undertakings though, and I can't wait for the next 2 months of LegalLee Blonde! I have some really cool companies to introduce you to and some really fun posts. This Monday's post is particularly exciting so I hope to see you back here then!

In the meantime, have a great weekend everyone!

Professional Patterns

This plaid blazer is a few years old, and every fall I find myself reaching for it again. Incorporating prints and patterns into your work wardrobe is a great way to update your look and embrace the trends of the season. Below are my tips for how to wear patterns to work. Before I get to that though; I have some announcements for you:

1) Today is the last day to enter the giveaway to win a pair of Kendra Scott earrings and $105 gift card to Sephora! If you haven't entered yet, you can do so here.

2) Starting today every Monday I will be sharing a "Monday Must Read" on Facebook & Twitter. Be sure to follow along to catch some great articles aimed at all of you amazing women working hard to achieve your goals! The "Must Reads" will be articles I found interesting each week ranging from fashion, to business, to career advice.

Tips for Wearing Patterns at Work:

1. Stick with one color scheme
You'll notice with this outfit the plaid is in wine shades with hints of black. The rest of my outfit is therefore black.

2. Stick with one pattern at a time
If you are wearing a patterned blazer, generally stick with a solid colored blouse. Print mixing is awesome; but rarely will it work for the office.

3. Pick a feature item
Your patterned item should be the focus of your outfit. Don't let the rest of your outfit compete with it- that can look too "busy" for the corporate world. My personal favourite item for patterns, are blazers.

4. Experiment with pattern size
Depending on the pattern, you may find that a smaller print or a larger print looks more professional. Once you’ve picked a pattern you want (say, polka dot); find a large print and a small print and try them on with the rest of your outfit – you’ll often find one feels more professional!

Have a great Monday everyone. I'll be busy with back to back meetings today, but that will make a nice change from being in court all day!

I haven't shown you guys a casual 'what i wear on the weekend' post in a while, so I thought I'd show this cozy fall outfit. I love mixing stripes and plaid (as you may know from this post) so this is a go to weekend outfit for me.

These are hands down my go to fall boots. I initially grabbed these boots on a whim - while grocery shopping with my mom while I was visiting her! ha! - but I am SO glad I did. The "v" cut of the boots gives the illusion of length to your legs and is flattering on everybody!

Below is a round up of other "V front" boots that will have similar qualities in terms of lengthen the look of your legs. I gotta say the Joe Fresh ones are still my favourites though!

I had such a busy weekend and am definitely tired today! Does anyone else find October to be the busiest month of the year? 4 of my closest friends have their birthdays in October, my niece and goddaughter do as well, and then throw in Thanksgiving (Canadian) and Halloween and the month just seems to fly by! I hope you've all had a great month so far! See you back here on Wednesday (...at which time I will hopefully have caught up on sleep!)

This weekend is Thanksgiving long weekend in Canada. As such, I wanted to do a post focused on all things Thanksgiving - both fashion & food. And; it gives all of you American readers extra time to think about your thanksgiving outfits and eats!!!

The three outfits above are all outfits that fit my "Thanksgiving criteria". In other words, they scream "fall" and are comfortable enough to both run around in, and to allow you to eat a ton in haha.

And just for fun, I also wanted to talk a bit about Thanksgiving food. mmm. Below are the recipes I plan on trying this Thanksgiving. For these and more recipes, be sure to follow me on pinterest!

November 22nd update for my American readers: I tried the Apple Cider Sangria recipe and it was AMAZING. Everyone loved it! I definitely recommend this delicious drink. I also made a non-alcoholic version by replacing the white wine with carbonated water (I have a soda stream) and the vodka with a splash of cranberry juice. I also increased the cinnamon by a pinch!

Have a great Thanksgiving to anyone celebrating this weekend!! I am so excited for the long weekend! Some friends of mine are hosting a giant Thanksgiving potluck on Monday and I cannot wait!

Despite it being a holiday Monday in Canada I WILL still be posting on Monday (and it is an awesome work outfit - you don't want to miss it!) so I will hopefully see you all back here on Monday. Cheers!
