This is one of my favorite fall looks year after year. Maxi dresses are the perfect summer-to-fall transitional piece for your wardrobe. You can layer a cardigan or jacket (like this denim one) and add a scarf for an easy fall look. It's also a great fall style because it is easy to adjust it to the temperatures. On more summery fall days stick with a light weight cardigan and scarf, but on cooler days add a jacket and blanket scarf.

The key to transitioning your maxi dress into the fall is to choose your dress / dresses wisely. Maxi dresses made of lighter materials such as chiffon should be left for the summer months. Cotton dresses, in contrast, are perfect to wear in the fall. Dresses in solid colors such as navy, black or red are easiest to style for fall.

This has been an odd work week for me, having both yesterday & today as office days. It's been great to actually catch up on paper work & emails, but I do struggle with not getting distracted at my desk. Hopefully today I can buckle down and then start my weekend early!

Transitioning from Summer to Fall - Color Combinations & Outfit Ideas

fall-color-combinations
I am SO excited to share today's post with you!! One of the questions I have been getting a lot via email lately is what to wear during "seasonal transitions". It's tough to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall; and coming up with outfits for September can be difficult. So, for today's post I am showing you my top 4 color combinations to transition your outfits from summer to fall!

Burgundy & Blush is a great color combination to transition out of summer. Pair any blush item with burgundy and you've got a great outfit! For added fall touches, consider adding (like I've done here) leopard print and rose gold or bronze! (ps. I posted this pic to instagram last week- follow along if you aren't already!)

Olive is always a big colour for fall, but to make it a bit more fitted to this late summer weather try pairing it with pink! Here I've pictured one of my favourite outfits with olive & pale pink, but, olive also pairs well with rich dark pink- so give that a try as well.

I have been wearing yellow a lot this summer (as you probably noticed in my posts here and here). It is one of my favorite colors during the summer, but, I also really like it transitioning into the fall paired with shades of grey or even navy. The above picture is from an older post (you can see the full post here) but it is an outfit I repeat season to season. The grey tones are a perfect compliment to sunny yellow.

One of the easiest ways to keep wearing all your summer whites into September is to pair them with jewel tones. White denim with emerald, wine or navy looks stunning! I think a combination of multiple jewel tones (like in this outfit) really makes an outfit with white look like it was made for fall.

Am I the only one DYING to wear all the cute new spring clothes I keep seeing in stores/ on blogs?! No? Didn't think so. It's SO TEMPTING! So, for today's post I wanted to show a way to wear one of my absolute favourite spring trends - midi skirts - in a way that works for winter! Hope you like it!

My main "tips" to winter-ize this spring trend are: 1) pair your skirt with a heavier knit top 2) stick with midi skirts in heavier materials - no chiffon just yet! 3) stick with midi skirts in either darker colours or patterns (like this lovely brocade!)

Have a great Monday everyone!! What are you all up to for the start of the work week?!

ps. Congratulations to Alison who won the bootcuff giveaway! I hope you enjoy em'. Huge thanks to everyone who entered - stay tuned for another giveaway next month!
