Making Jenna Lyons Proud

Jenna Lyons is probably my biggest fashion idol. She is the president & creative director for J Crew, and a major risk-taker in the world of fashion. When I bought this JCrew flamingo blazer, I knew I wanted to be really bold with my style choices and 'make Jenna proud'. 

I decided to do some print mixing and wear the pink blazer with both leopard print and stripes for a bold work outfit. If you are shy about print mixing, don't be! If you missed my tips on print mixing, check them out here. Leopard & stripes are a classic print mix combo, and adding in any bright color with them (like hot pink) works perfectly. 

I also plan on styling this pink blazer in a more subdued work outfit later in the fall, so be sure to stay tuned on the blog for that!

Aubergine

I have been on a bit of 'colored pant kick' lately (evidence here & here). When I spotted these aubergine colored ones on sale at JCrew Factory, I knew I had to add them to my collection. The color is perfect to transition into fall!

I also really love the straight leg cut of these pants. Almost all my other wear-to-work pants are loose boot cut pants, or skinny pants (.. yeah, you may have seen those on the blog once or twice haha). This cut is really flattering and a great addition to my office wear. I highly recommend these pants - especially since they come in 4 other great colors!

WDLBD - aka. your Work Day Little Black Dress

A work day little black dress (yeah that's right - I felt the need to acronym that into WDLBD haha) is a wardrobe essential. A black dress will always be a great choice for the office - it is a classic, professional look. 

This peplum dress is the perfect WDLBD for many reasons. First, the length is entirely work appropriate. Second, the sweetheart neckline and peplum detail add a fashionable, trendy element to this classic piece. Finally, I love the material of this dress - while it is tight fitted, it is quite thick and so avoids the dreaded 'body-con-at-work' look. 

I am on such a rose gold kick right now, so I paired this WDLBD with rose gold accessories that, again, work for the office. I love my rose gold watch - it is one of most worn items at work. Because I can't always have my cell phone on me (the challenge of being a courtroom lawyer) I definitely like to have a watch at all times.

In other news, I got back into Vancouver yesterday after my vacation at my parents. I'm pretty excited to be back at work (I really love being a lawyer) but I already miss my nieces & nephews. It is certainly tough living away from all my little munchkins! I had a blast with them this past week. Did you catch my instagram story of my niece making fun of me for taking selfies?! Wednesday Wants: Spring Office Wear

I've been slowly bringing out my spring work wardrobe this past week. For me, that means lots of blush, gray, and pale blues and yellows. This week's Wants are all items I would love to add to my spring wardrobe. I definitely think I need to pull the trigger on all 3 pairs of shoes. The chunky heel pumps are right on trend (and I love the suede). The other two are both new patterns/colors of my favorite shoes - Ivanka Trumps. 

Today is my last day of being 29. I am freaking out (slightly) less than i thought I would be, so I am calling that a win. Today is also my last day of work before a 4 day weekend so, that is exciting! I've decided not to do any sort of big celebration for my birthday - instead I've asked friends and family to spend whatever money they would normally spend on me (be that $7 buying a drink at a bar, or $25 on a gift, etc.) and instead spend that on something good. I.E. Donate it to a local charity, buy the person behind you in line a cup of coffee etc. I then asked my friends to tell me about what they did as that will bring me SO much more joy than any present could.
