Wearing Pink to Work

I was recently asked whether or not I think you can look professional while wearing pink. To me the answer is a resounding yes! If anything, I feel more confident when wearing pink to work because it reminds me that not only am I taking the professional world by storm but I am doing so as a fashion-loving woman who, yes, likes the color pink.

I feel more powerful knowing that I can do the career that I love without compromising who I am and what I like. While I do still wear black suits to work a lot, I am focusing on brightening up my wardrobe when/where I can.

While I wouldn't recommend wearing your hot pink mini skirt to work any time soon, I firmly believe pink can look work appropriate. This J Crew dress combines a professional, tailored cut with this soft pink shade, creating an easy wear-to-work outfit. If you are looking to incorporate pink into your work wear wardrobe, look for items with classic shapes & silhouettes to balance out the bolder color choice.

The widget below has some of my favorite wear-to-work, completely office appropriate pink items that are available right now. Do you wear pink to work? Let me know in the comments below!

5 Tips to Look More Professional

Today I wanted to share with you all a classic work look modernized with a belt. Lately, I find myself wearing a wide belt over a blazer and pants quite often. It adds an element of chic to a standard professional outfit.

I was recently asked if I had any tips for making work outfits look more professional. I thought it was a great question and so, here are 5 simple tips to make your outfits look and feel more professional. I hope you enjoy them! Have a great weekend everyone and I will see you back here on Monday.

5 Tips to Make Your Outfits More Professional

1) Choose a Fitted vs. a Boxy Blazer
In the above photos, you'll see that I'm wearing a well fitted blazer. A sure fire way to make your work outfit look more professional and polished is to opt for your fitted blazers instead of any boxy or slouchy ones you may have.

2) Choose a Structured vs. an Unstructured Handbag

My handbag above has a classic structured shape. While handbags like this are gorgeous and on-trend, your work outfit will look more professional if you choose one of your structured handbags instead. if you are looking for a great structured bag I would suggest this

3) Choose Pointed vs. Round Toe Shoes
While you may still like the look of a rounder toe on shoes, a classic work look is far more likely to favor a pointed toe. It elongates your leg and pulls the outfit together. In addition to my Ivanka Trumps (linked above) I also find these to be very comfortable.

4) Choose Tucked In vs. Out
An untucked shirt in a professional setting appears messy. While I am a huge fan of untucked tunic shirts with leggings on my "off days", at work your shirt should be tucked in.

5) Material Matters!

Avoid sheer fabrics when putting together your office outfits. period. Shirts in heavier materials will not only 'hold up' better through a long work day, but they also will make an outfit look more professional.

Blazer: old. similar: here
Pants: banana republic
Handbag: Michael Kors
Heels: old. similar: here & here
I love a bold blazer to break up the monotony of work wear. This red one is an old favourite of mine that I find myself reaching for every season.

Today's post truly is all about "red" as I also wanted to share with you guys some photos from the red carpet last night! Last night I was lucky enough to attend the Vancouver International Film Festival red carpet for the premiere of Homme Less. It was a great night. The red carpet was a ton of fun, the film was interesting and the after party was a blast. I highly recommend this film to everyone. It is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen! Overall it was great to be out supporting VIFF's style in film series! Below are some of the pics I snapped during the events.

.... Now, time for me to get real up-close-and-personal with a gallon of coffee; the only negative to being out on a Sunday night haha! I hope your Monday's all fly by, and I will see you back here on Wednesday.
