Jenna Lyons is probably my biggest fashion idol. She is the president & creative director for J Crew, and a major risk-taker in the world of fashion. When I bought this JCrew flamingo blazer, I knew I wanted to be really bold with my style choices and 'make Jenna proud'.

I decided to do some print mixing and wear the pink blazer with both leopard print and stripes for a bold work outfit. If you are shy about print mixing, don't be! If you missed my tips on print mixing, check them out here. Leopard & stripes are a classic print mix combo, and adding in any bright color with them (like hot pink) works perfectly.

I also plan on styling this pink blazer in a more subdued work outfit later in the fall, so be sure to stay tuned on the blog for that!

Wednesday Wants - Print Mixing

style tips on print mixing items

polka dots and stripes print mixing

My favorite part of fall fashion is the print mixing. Stripes, plaid, polka dots, & leopard are probably the 4 biggest prints of fall - and they work great when mixed together!

The key to print mixing is balancing the sizes - ie. if one print is very small, the other should be large. So, tiny polka dots work well with thick stripes, while big polka dots work better with thin stripes.

Liven up your work wear this fall, by doing some print mixing! If you are print-mixing-shy (yes, we're labelling that a term haha) stick with one printed item worn with a basic, and add your second print in via your shoes! The 8 pairs below (2 of each of the top 4 prints for fall) are a great way to ease your way in to print mixing your outfits.

In other news, if you follow my instagram, you may have seen my story about doing a Facebook live Q&A! I have been getting a lot of reader questions via instagram DMs (and a few good old fashioned emails) so I am going to round some up for a Q&A!

If you have any questions you'd like to ask me (fashion, beauty, about me) send me an instagram message or leave it as a comment below! I'll try to do the Q&A video this weekend!

Three Timeless Fall Trends

three fall trends that never go out of style

It is officially fall weather here in Vancouver. So, in getting ready for the fall, I wanted to share with you three trends that are timeless; trends you can count on to look great fall after fall, after fall.

fashion bloggers favorite fall outfits

Three Timeless Fall Trends

1) Plaid

*Original Outfit Post: HERE*

As soon as the weather turns colder, you can bet that plaid will be back in fashion. The nice thing about plaid is that you can make quite the statement with it - as I did with the above shirt. Or; you can use it as more of an accent to your outfit - as I did in the outfit below.

 2) Stripes

The beauty of stripes as a pattern is that they can look nautical & summery, or ready for fall totally depending on how you style them. My striped tees are probably the most worn items in my wardrobe for this very reason!

To ensure your stripes are "fall ready"; pair them with other fall colors like burgundy or camel - or course mix them with plaid!

3) Leopard Print

The quote that leopard is a neutral is so true - especially for the fall. In the fall, leopard print can replace your basic black or tan to give your outfits more depth. Again, pairing leopard print with fall tones such as burgundy is an easy way to create a timeless fall look.

Wednesday Wants: Work Appropriate Prints

I think too many young professionals shy away from prints when it comes to choosing items to wear to work. Prints can be challenging, for sure, but done correctly they can look great in your wear to work wardrobe! I particularly like adding prints in my accessories - my shoes & handbags.

These are my favorite "printed items" available right now. What I like about all of the items here is that they easily mix into your existing wardrobe. The dresses are stand alone pieces, while the shoes, handbag & skirt pair easily with work wear basics.

I've had a really fun week so far- and I have definitely indulged in some shopping! For non-work days I picked up a pair of denim short overalls and oh-my-gosh I never want to take them off. They are so comfortable and super nostalgia inducing. Pretty sure the last time I wore overalls I was 9 haha. You can see a pic of the overalls on my instagram if you want to check them out! I Hope your work week is going well so far!

Style Inspiration: Anne Hathaway as Jules in "The Intern" (Look 2)

recreated look anne hathaway in the intern
Today's entry in my Style Inspiration Series is another look inspired by Anne Hathaway as "Jules" in The Intern. I have re-created one of her outfit's before (here), but I think that her wardrobe is the best "young professional fashionista" wardrobe I have seen in a movie. I want every outfit worn by Anne Hathaway in this movie magically transferred into my closet!

What I like about this look is that it serves as a great reminder that the bold combination of red & leopard print can work for a professional look if styled correctly. Keeping the accessories to a minimum and wearing a menswear style blazer tone down the red/leopard and create an excellent work look.

What do you think of this work look? Would you wear red & leopard to the office? I'd love to hear your thoughts! My main tips on wearing a combination of red & leopard print to work are:

1) Keep your accessories to a minimum

2) Keep the leopard print to a smaller item (shoes or a handbag are perfect)

3) Look for materials and fabrics that are high quality to keep the look professional

I hope you all have a great start to your work week. It has been so nice and warm here in Vancouver so I plan on wearing spring looks to work all week. If you follow along on instagram I'll make sure to post some of them.

This Monday work outfit features my go-to pants paired with a gorgeous olive blazer from Dynamite. I added leopard print heels just to add a bit more drama to the look. Speaking of work outfits, I am so excited today because I get to introduce you to Bowery & Fourth - a new line of work wear for women.

My personal fashion icon, Coco Chanel, once said that "Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance". Coco's wise words come to mind when I see Bowery & Fourth's attire. I see elegant lines and a classic yet contemporary style which is perfect for every career woman. This collection- aptly named the "Urban Gentlewoman"- offers staple pieces that every modern business woman should have in their work wardrobe. There are suits, pants, skirts and blouses - all with sleek lines and beautiful fabric.

In order to do a full production run of the Urban Gentlewoman, they are currently running a kickstarter campaign. You can be part of this campaign - and get involved with this really cool new line, by pledging! You can pledge as little as $1.50! Each pledge comes with a reward. You can see all of the rewards here!

So. Many. Lawyers.

fashion-blogger-collaboration-professional-outfits

One of my favorite parts of this blogging adventure I've been on for the past year has been getting to know fellow bloggers - especially fellow lawyer bloggers. Tif was one of the first bloggers I ever connected with and it was SO much fun to discuss (in addition to our love of Kendra Scott & Lilly Pulitzer) the differences between being a lawyer in Canada and the US. This certainly wasn't something I expected to have emerge from this blogging adventure, but I am so grateful to have made so many friends and fashionista-colleagues!

Today we wanted to link up and show you "lawyer style" and our five different takes on what that means. You should definitely check out all of these lovely ladies blogs to see more of their outfit pics as well as to learn more about their awesome selves! Direct links to their blogs are at the end of this post. For now though... let's get you to my outfit pics!

Faux leather accents are a huge trend this fall and I could not be more excited about that. For the past few years I have been incorporating faux leather accents into my work wardrobe. I love how - when used in moderation - it looks professional but tough. Work outfits can really affect your mood/ how you take on the day and I find that faux leather gives me a huge confidence boost!

I also love adding touches of other fall trends to my daily work outfits - which is why emerald, burgundy & leopard print all make appearances in this work look. Do you try to incorporate fall trends into your work looks? What are your favourite looks for work?

For anyone stopping by from the other lawyers blogs- HI!! Thanks for stopping by! I love to get to know new readers so feel free to introduce yourself in the comments below! Follow me on bloglovin to keep up with my posts.

Now - to get to my fashionable lawyer friends! Go check out their pages and show em some love! From L to R right from the above outfits:

Brittany @ The Lady Lawyer - I love the peplum detail on her jacket
Nina @ The Law of Fashion - that skirt! She shares my love of faux leather
Tif @ Bright on a Budget - so obsessed with the blush on blush
Brittany @ Lawyer Lookbook - she has the most amazing hair, doesn't she?!
