Style Inspiration: Anne Hathaway as "Jules" in The Intern

I am so excited to be announcing a new series on the blog today! Every few weeks I will be doing a "Style Inspiration" post in which I showcase a celebrity work appropriate outfit and my version of that outfit (with links of where to get the items of course!)

I wanted to start with this outfit from "The Intern". Have you seen the movie?! I actually really liked the movie (super cute) but more importantly I loved the fashion. Anne Hathaway's Character is Jules - the founder of an e-commerce fashion start-up. (Essentially it is a movie version of Sophia Amoruso's life). As such, the outfits are incredible. This was one of my favorite casual, but still chic, work looks. I love the layering and the unexpected pop of blue.

Blue Suede Dress

I scooped up this dress as soon as I saw it at Forever 21. This dress is a look alike of this gorgeous designer dress, which retails for over $3,000 (seriously!?). Unfortunately, it appears Forever 21 is already sold out of this exact dress but at least they have a number of really similar ones.

Lately I have been drawn to the simplicity of shift dresses or tunics with over the knee boots. It's like a fashion cleanse. These boots were such a good purchase - under $150 and I wear them almost every weekend (footwear overkill!?) 

It has been a busy work week for me, but I've been doing some travel planning for trips over the next 6 months so that's been really exciting. Can't wait to share all of the destinations with you all (...and outfits worn in said destinations, of course, haha).

Sometimes you just need to shake up your wardrobe. I've been trying out different ways of wearing existing pieces lately, and really love the idea of wearing a classic button down dress shirt backwards. The embellishment on this shirt just makes it even better for this!

You all know that I am OBSESSIVE when it comes to my work footwear. (Remember my post on the best heels for work?) Well these Sole Society pumps have quickly become a favorite. I wore them for a 3 hour shopping trip with a friend a few weeks back and they never hurt! We probably walked a couple miles and my feet still felt fine. *amazing*. I love that the strap detailing gives more intrigue than a 'boring' work pump, but still looks entirely classic and professional. Shoe win.

I hope you all had a good weekend! I had such an amazing dance class on Saturday & squeezed in a fair amount of relaxation and time with the people most important to me, so my weekend was pretty darn great.

Top 5 Jewelry Trends for 2016 (plus a 15% off deal!)

This week I've been focusing a lot on jewelry, which had me thinking about the trends in jewelry this year. As such, I decided that for today's post I would provide a list of the top 5 trends in jewelry for 2016! 1. Statement Earrings:  

Statement Earrings were all the rage at New York Fashion Week this year. Everyone from Dolce & Gabbana, to Oscar De La Renta, to Gucci used statement earrings to complete their Spring/Summer looks.

2. Chokers:  

It is no secret that the 90's have been back in style for some time now. This year, the 90's trend is extending into accessories, with chokers and amulet style necklaces making a big comeback. The 2016 chokers and amulets are all about the material - be that silks, or heavy metals. Below are my favorites:

 3. Body Chains:

These have been in style for the past year or so, but only now are they making an appearance as something to be worn not just to the beach or to a night club. The materials are also getting thicker and more bold - a far cry from the delicate gold chains we saw everywhere last summer. Below are my top picks:

4. Anklets:

Again with the 90's! I think this may be the trend I most excited about for this spring/summer. I loved wearing anklets in the 90's and feel nostalgic just thinking about getting to wear them again. Though I do think this time my choices will have less "ying-yangs" and half heart "BFF" charms haha. Below are my favorites:

5. Brooches:  
I also really love this trend. Brooches always make me think of grace & class. I love that what has been seen as a 'grandma trend' is back in style. I will definitely be sporting brooches on my work looks this year. Below are my favorite brooches:

Pink Shirt Day

Many of you have heard of the #PinkShirtDay anti-bullying campaign. This year Pink Shirt Day will be held on February 24th, where individuals across Canada will rock pink shirts to show their support for taking a stand against bullying.

For those of you who don't know, the roots of the Pink Shirt campaign stem from two high school boys who decided to wear pink shirts to school one day in support of a grade 9 boy who was being bullied for wearing pink. The idea struck a chord across the nation, and today the campaign raises money nationwide for great youth causes.

This year, London Drugs is the exclusive retailer of the Pink Day t-shirts that you can see the four of us wearing in these photos. These are the official Pink Day shirts, and the net proceeds of these shirts will go to the CKNW Orphan's Fund in support of Boys & Girls Clubs in local communities. I love the idea behind pink shirt day, and especially love this year's message focusing on kindness. I'd love to say that bullying ends with ones teenage years, but I think we are all to familiar with adult bullies that feel the need to belittle others or bring them down. What I have learned in recent years is that a little kindness in the working world goes a long way. Many people are unhappy, over-tired or over-stressed and spreading kindness can make a bullied person feel stronger, and a bully feel less inclined to lash out.

I hope you will all join me on February 24th in wearing a pink shirt and spreading some kindness.
